Comparison

Carousel maker comparison — the honest version

Carousels are one of the highest-engagement formats on Instagram, and the tools for making them fall into three camps: design tools (Canva, Adobe Express), publishing tools (Buffer, Postiz), and generation tools (Instamaker). Here's how they actually compare — every claim about another tool links to that company's own pricing or docs pages.

The bottom line

  • Canva — the design-breadth champion: 1.6M+ free templates and a massive asset library, but you design every slide yourself.
  • Adobe Express — the value all-rounder: free plan, and Premium at US$9.99/mo includes 250 generative AI credits and 200M+ Adobe Stock assets.
  • Buffer — the simple scheduler: a genuinely free-forever plan, paid plans from US$10/mo; it publishes content but doesn't design it.
  • Postiz — the open-source multi-platform scheduler: 34 platforms, self-hostable, paid plans from US$29/mo.
  • Instamaker — the generator: carousels written, designed and rendered for you from a niche profile.

Postiz

When to choose which

Canva — the strongest all-round design tool: unmatched template library and brand kits, and its Content Planner publishes too. You design every slide yourself, so it rewards people who enjoy design.

Adobe Express — the value pick: cheap Premium with generous generative AI credits and deep Adobe Stock integration. Like Canva, carousel assembly is still manual.

Buffer — the dependable publisher: a genuinely free-forever plan and simple scheduling. It publishes carousels you already made — it won't help create them.

Postiz — the open-source multi-platform scheduler: 34 platforms, team scaling, self-hosting. You bring the content; it handles distribution.

Instamaker — the generator: carousels written, designed and rendered from your niche profile, with themes for brand consistency, a per-profile no-repeat history, and one-run multi-language support. No design skills needed — but AI can make mistakes, so review before posting.

The honest pattern: design tools and schedulers require a content workflow around them; a generator like Instamaker removes the workflow. If you already design in Canva or Express, a scheduler (Buffer, Postiz) is the natural add-on.

Tools we didn't compare in depth here: Figma, Later, and Metricool — check their sites if your workflow is design-heavy or calendar-driven.
